Micah and April share their heartwarming journey with Ray, the first greyhound adopted through Greyt Angels.
A Perfect Match
In 2016, Ray became the first Greyt Angel to find a forever home with Micah and April. Having grown up with a greyhound, they knew Ray would be the gentle giant their family needed.
We adopted Ray in 2016, and he was the very first greyhound (lurcher) offered by Greyt Angels. Micah’s family had had a greyhound growing up, and we knew we wanted a gentle giant who would keep us company at home and be patient and easygoing with our three small children. We scoured agencies and ads looking for a greyhound, and when we stumbled on Ray it was instant love!
Family Life with Ray
Ray quickly adapted to life with three young children, offering patience, companionship, and playful moments. Whether playing catch or napping alongside April during her night shifts, Ray proved to be the perfect family dog.
Our kids were 4, 6, and 7 when he joined our family and he has been wonderful with them. He is patient and calm, loves to be pet, and to play catch with them outside. When April worked night shift, Ray would curl up on the floor next to her and keep her company while they napped the day away. He had a nasty habit of trying to chase squirrels, but in the past few years he has become very civilized—even with them!
Fostering and Friendship
This past summer, Ray welcomed a foster pup, Rusty, into their home. He shared his space and toys, showing Rusty the ropes of family life with grace and kindness.
This past summer we were able to foster another pup for the first time. Ray welcomed Rusty with open paws, shared his bed and toys, and patiently taught him the ropes of family living.
A Cherished Companion
Now back to being the sole canine, Ray enjoys the undivided attention of his loving family. Greeted warmly each day and curling up in the evenings, Ray’s gentle companionship completes their home.
Now that we’re back to being a one-dog home, he’s enjoying the space to spread out and have his family all to himself again. Being greeted at the door each day when we come home and having him curl up next to us in the evenings is perfect—we can’t imagine our home without his gentle companionship!
Thank you, Micah and April, for sharing your wonderful story with Ray.
