Mary's adoption story of Joy is a heartwarming tale of new beginnings and finding a forever home. Joy's story is told through her loving adopted mother, Mary.
A New Chapter Begins
Joy's racing days were ending. Once a fast and sleek pup in Ireland, she found herself in Alabama, facing retirement. Transferred multiple times, Joy was nervous about her future until she arrived with Greyt Angels in Indiana.
My racing days were ending; I had run my courses and there were younger, faster dogs than me. While I would miss the track, I was really looking forward to a new journey from where I started out. As a young pup I was in Ireland, fast, sleek and yes, all that. For almost five years I was able to strut my stuff then one day I was traded and being sent to the Americas! I was nervous at first, but I landed on a track in Alabama. I tried my best to be fast, but I was to be “retired” because I lacked the right stuff. I was transferred a few times with several other dogs not knowing my destiny, I was nervous and scared, what would happen to me. I was fostered in the state of Indiana with something called Greyt Angels. I wasn’t sure what this was all about but there was no track at this home but lots to eat, fresh air, toys and walks. I enjoyed it.
A Chance Encounter
During a meet-and-greet at Petco, Joy wasn't the initial favorite. But when Mary and her confident whippet, Jack, walked by, everything changed. Joy matched Jack's steps, showing her playful spirit. Mary knew she had found something special and decided to bring Joy home.
One beautiful April day we were to hang out at Petco in Goshen with a bunch of other track dogs looking for what they called a forever home, I didn’t know what that was, but I was about to find out. While I was walked around by several diferent people and things weren’t looking good for me, a woman with one of those small whippet dogs walked past and then asked if she could walk with me. Now this whippet, Jack was short and sure of himself. I thought I’ll show him, and I kept up with him step for step and was even playful, smiling and showing my teef. The lady leaned down at the end and hugged me giving me a kiss on my head, she whispered you’re coming home with us.
Life in a Forever Home
Now, over a year later, Joy thrives in a loving home with two other dogs. Her days are filled with play, walks, and snuggles by the fireplace. Mary often whispers to Joy, "You have the right stuff," affirming their perfect bond.
Fast forward a little over a year and I live in a nice house with a yard and two other dogs. We wrestle around, have nightly howling lessons after dinner, take lots of walks and drives. My favorite time is snuggling in front of the fireplace watching Call of the Wild with my owner with my paws wrapped around her arm she pets me and whispers you have the right stuff. love my forever home.
A Joyful Life
Joy's story is a testament to the transformative power of love and the joy of finding a forever family. Mary saw the potential in Joy, and together they share a life full of happiness and companionship.
