Julia shares how her lifelong dream of adopting a greyhound became a reality with her special girl, Eavey.
A Long-Awaited Dream
For years, Julia dreamed of adopting a greyhound. Meeting Carol's son at work sparked the connection to Greyt Angels, setting her on the path to welcoming Eavey into her life.
For as long as I can remember wanting a dog, it was always a greyhound. Imagine my excitement when working at Martin’s I met Carol’s son who, upon hearing of my doggy dreams told me that his mom happened to work with a greyhound adoption group!! I was thrilled! I knew then, someday my dream would be a reality.
Meeting Eavey
After a long search, Julia and Misael finally found their perfect match in Eavey, who had been returned by another group. The moment they met, they knew she was the one.
Fast forward 6-7 years, Misael and I moved to an apartment that allows dogs. So I got the information to contact Greyt Angels, and our lives changed forever. It felt like an eternity we were waiting for the right fit, there were a few dogs we wanted to meet who wouldn’t have been right, one we met and felt he was our guy but it wasn’t meant to be. Then one day I got a call from Carol, she told be they had a girl coming in who had been adopted out by another group but had been returned. She said she thought this girl would be a good fit and asked if we’d want to meet her.
Eavey (Formerly known as Bebe) was only at her foster home with Jesse for, I believe, 10 days. We met her and immediately knew she was our girl. In the 2-1/2 years she’s been with us she has brought so much joy and love to everyday.
Eavey's Transformation
Initially shy and unsure, Eavey has blossomed over the past 2.5 years. Once afraid of other dogs, she has grown curious and more confident. Her personality shines through in her love for car rides, snacks, and cuddles.
The girl we brought home September 26th 2017 is nothing like the one we have the joy of spending our lives with now. Don’t get me wrong, she’s always been the very best dog there is (I’m not biased) but in this time it’s been such a joy to see her relax and show us her sweet, stubborn, goofy personality.
Our first night Eavey whined the entire night. She was not liking this new place. When we would go on walks and she’d see another dog, big or small, she would turn and try to run away. The poor thing was so unsure of herself and this new situation she was in. Slowly though, she stopped being afraid of the other dogs. She still doesn’t seem to love them, but she is curious and will try to approach them.
A Perfect Fit
Eavey quickly learned the joys of furniture from her foster brother and now enjoys snuggling on the couch. Her affectionate nature and love for people make her the perfect companion.
She’s learned so many things. She’s learned that corn chips are delicious (though I do try to keep her from having them, sometimes her sweet brown eyes get the best of us). She’s learned that car rides are great! Usually better than the destination. She wanted me to thank her crazy, sweet former foster brother DS Delaney who taught her that the couch and human bed are a lot better places to be than her own bed. She learned that one very well, we couldn’t keep her off the furniture if we wanted to. Over time it’s been amazing to watch her become more confident, comfortable in her space, and affectionate. She’s gone from a girl who, if you picked her up onto the couch, would lay down on the other end and give you the butt, to a sweet cuddle baby. She loves food, snacks, walks, exploring, chasing squirrels, and being around people. She’s great with people and loves them. I don’t think she’s ever met a stranger.
Gratitude to Greyt Angels
Julia is grateful to Greyt Angels for their dedication in matching hounds with loving families. Eavey has brought immense joy and love into their lives, fulfilling Julia's dream in the best way possible.
I really can’t say enough about this wonderful girl, and I’ve probably already said too much! I really have to thank all of the awesome people at Greyt Angels who work so hard to match each hound with the best fit! Carol saw that Eavey would be a good fit and I don’t think we could have adopted a more perfect girl!”
Thank you, Julia, for sharing your heartwarming journey with Eavey.
